Side trip to #Celestùn, Mexico to see the #Flamingos. With no reservations and only a backpack, we took the local bus 3.5 hours to Celestùn. Because of winds, it is best to do the boat ride in the morning, so we found a hotel on the beach for the night, #HotelElViento, and then did some sightseeing. 🎵So Sick Of Cancer Music Video Tribute🎵 Last Christmas, I wrote this song, “So Sick Of Cancer” as I reflected on the loss of a pivotal player in the Colorectal Cancer Community. Ryan Vieth, passed just before Christmas the year before. A husband and dad of 5 boys and a relentless champion of hope, my heart broke for his family and his best friend, Michael Holtz. So this year when the anniversary of Ryan’s passing came, and we experienced other losses in our cancer fam, I reflected on the genuineness of the friendships we make with our fellow survivors and particularly, the one between Ryan and Michael continued to surface for me as an example of the beauty, complexity and camaraderie that exists between survivors. We understand each other like no other. Ryan and Michael were no exception. They held each other up until the end. They continue to do so - one in spirit - and the other still here and fighting for other survivors, for funding and for improved screening… 💙Colorectal Cancer - specifically Rectal Cancer is now the leading cause of death among people under 50. Most people I know being diagnosed now are under 40. Keeping in mind the screening age doesn’t start until 45, that’s a problem. 💙It is also the #2 cancer killer for all ages combined. 💙AND, it’s the ONLY cancer that doesn’t have its own funding source for research. Stop and really consider what that means… 💙March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month - Get your butts checked and always follow your intuition when it comes to your body and health, regardless of your age! …In creating this song and the video I also thought about all the other cancer survivors out there. Not just the CRC survivors. So I decided to make it a tribute not just to Michael and Ryan’s friendship, but also to the millions of survivors - those still with us, and those guiding us from beyond and fueling our advocacy. A special thank you to Michael Holtz (@MichaelHoltzOnline), for his support of this project and his tireless advocacy on the part of the CRC Community. He and so many others are out there every day making a difference and doing the work so that we all may have a better, longer life. Parrots!! We have wild #Parrots that fly into our backyard every morning. CC jumps out of bed to communicate with them, and every morning they hang around chatting with her. This video was recorded a few weeks ago in the midst of what was my first illness since cancer treatment and my first virus in 9 years. It was a bit triggering: Anyone who has been through cancer treatment understands how scary any illness can be post-cancer. This is for you! UPDATE: I wish I could also say that I was magically cured of my angst over what’s happening at home simply by shedding what I did by being ill two times in 4 weeks, but sadly the flood of bad news continues to hurt my tender heart and soul. I DO HOPE that we all wake up and find our voices to dig our way out of this mess. Anyway, here is my Homemade #PumpkinPie recipe: 3 eggs-1/2c brn sugar-1/3c wht sugar-1/2t salt-2t cinnamon-1t grd ginger-1/4t grd nutmeg-1/4t grd clove-1/8t cardamom-1/2t lemon zest-2c pumpkin purée-1+1/2c heavy cream (or 1 can evap milk) 2 small pie shells. Today is the #InternationalDayOfWomen and in #Merida, it is as much protest as it is a celebration of #PoderDeMujer! 💪🏻NEVER have we seen such camaraderie and community among women. Thousands came to support one another and victims by marching and speaking out against #Femicide and other violence against women in the country. Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Trafficking… #WomenSupportingWomen. What a concept! 💜🤍💚 #MeridaMagico 🇲🇽
